The newly appointed Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, yesterday assumed office as the 18th chief executive of the 45-year-old scheme.

The newly appointed Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, yesterday assumed office as the 18th chief executive of the 45-year-old scheme.
Ibrahim, who took over from Maj-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, in a ceremony yesterday at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, urged staff of the scheme to shun malpractices and corruption.
He pledged to strengthen the existing collaborations with stakeholders and also rejig the NYSC ventures in line with the NYSC Act, saying his vision would be to sustain effective utilisation of the potentials of the corps members.
Ibrahim assured that he would prioritise the security and welfare of both corps members and staff of the scheme, assuring Kazaure
that he would also strive to sustain the tremendous achievements of the scheme and take NYSC to a higher level.
The new boss, who hails from Nasarawa Council of Nasarawa State, obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in History from the University of Jos in 1989 and 1992, respectively, and a PhD in History in 2007 from University of Abuja.
He has held several positions in the course of his over two decades career, including pioneer Registrar, Nigerian Army University, Biu, Borno State; Head, Department of History and War Studies, Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna; Research Officer, Institute of Army Education; Military Assistant to the DG NYSC, 1996-1999; Staff Officer I, Military History, National Defence College (NDC), 2004-2009 and Senior Military Instructor, Nigerian Army School of Education 2009 to 2011, amongst others.
